World Refining Profile


As of January 1, 2011, there were 662 refineries in the world with an average capacity of 133,277 B/D and a total capacity of 88,229,593 B/D. 


The world's catalytic cracking capacity was 14,669,011.  Refineries in North America had the highest conversion with 30.9% of crude distillation capacity.


The world's catalytic reforming capacity was 11,514,166.  Refineries in North America had the highest conversion with 19.6% of crude distillation capacity.  Thirty-six percent of the world's capacity was located in North America.


The world's catalytic hydrocracking capacity was 5,416,980.  Refineries in North America had the highest conversion with 8.8% of crude distillation capacity.  Thirty-five percent of the world's capacity was located in North America.


The world's catalytic hydrotreating capacity was 45,431,300.  Refineries in North America had the highest capacity with 76.6% of crude distillation capacity.  Thirty-six percent of the world's capacity was located in North America.
