Allen Mesch founded
PetroStrategies in 1982
to provide strategic planning and analysis to organizations in the oil and
gas industry. Mr. Mesch consults with a number of oil and gas companies in the areas of strategic
planning, economic analysis, feasibility studies, model development, and industry research
and forecasting. He specializes in business strategy and analysis for firms seeking growth
and improved profitability. He has directed strategic planning and forecasting studies for
companies in both the upstream and downstream segments of the oil and gas industry.
Mr. Mesch has over forty years of experience in both technical and management
positions in engineering, economics, and business planning with such firms as Gulf Oil
Corporation, Continental Oil Company, and Sun Exploration and Production Company. From
1980 to 1986, he was Manager of Business Environment Assessment and an Energy Economist
for Sun Exploration and Production Company in Dallas.
From 1996 to 2000, he was Director of the Maguire Energy Institute.
He resurrected a program that had been dormant for eight years and developed an effective industry outreach
program. Mr. Mesch organized two annual conferences on such leading
edge topics as Texas electricity deregulation, innovations in energy
marketing, and e-commerce. Under his direction the Institute
developed a series of continuing education classes for both industry newcomers and seasoned veterans. The Institute published a
quarterly newsletter and developed a highly informative web page.
The Institute's innovative Oil and Gas Education Initiative provided an effective
vehicle to educate academics, journalists, and government officials on the
primary functions of the oil and gas industry.
He has held academic positions as an adjunct professor at the University of Texas at
Dallas, Southern Methodist University and Texas Woman's University.
He is a founder and
past-president of the Dallas/Ft. Worth Chapter of the International Association of Energy
Economists. Mr. Mesch has served as a member of the Executive Committee of the MIT
Enterprise Forum of Dallas/Ft. Worth.
He is a published author with papers on trends in
the oil and gas industry and innovations in business planning. He has
presented papers at AESC, COPAS, Energy Council, IPAA, Landmark Graphics,
TIPRO and National Oil and Gas Royalty conferences.
He serves as a resource to local and national media on oil
and gas with quotes in business publications and appearances on local and
national television including the McCuisition Program on PBS, NBC Nightly
News, and local news stations. He has been quoted in publications
ranging from the Oil & Gas Journal to Business Week.
Mr. Mesch earned a masters degree in chemical
engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a B. S. in
chemical engineering from Clarkson University. He has extensive course work
in business and management from the University of Pittsburgh and the
University of Houston.
